Jacques Audiard will present his newest film “Emilia Pérez” at BRIFF!

Jacques Audiard has honoured us with a visit to the BRIFF to present his new film, “Emilia Pérez”, which received rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival last May, where it won the Jury Prize and the Best Actress Award for its four actresses. For his tenth feature film, the French director, who won the Palme d’Or in 2015 for “Dheepan”, and is the author of such classics as “Sur mes lèvres”, “Un prophète” and “De Rouille et d’os”, sets sail for Mexico, the setting for a sparkling musical thriller in Spanish. The film, co-produced by Belgian company Les Films du Fleuve, tells the story of Rita (Zoe Saldana), an exploited lawyer in a Mexico City law firm, who is kidnapped by Manitas, the head of a drug cartel, to help her become the Emilia Pérez (Karla Sofia Gascon) he has always dreamed of being… And offers the filmmaker an opportunity to reinvent himself, as he did with “The Brothers Sisters” and “The Olympics”.

Jacques Audiard will be presenting “Emilia Pérez” on 1 July at 9pm at the Palace cinema.  The BRIFF takes place from 25 June to 3 July.

Paradiso will release “Emilia Pérez” in Belgian cinemas on 28 August.
