Thomas Vinterberg

Thomas Vinterberg was born in Copenhagen on May 19, 1969. He graduated from the National Film School of Denmark and then directed several short films. After that, he directed feature films and he made his debut with The Biggest Heroes. At the same time, along with Lars von Trier, he co-founded the Dogme 95 movement in filmmaking. The movement was excluding the use of elaborate special effects or technology that could be found in big Anglo-Saxon productions. His aim was to come back to a more expressive sobriety. Thomas Vinterberg then realised Festen, which conforms to the 10 established rules.
He directed films that were not that successful in the 2000s, but then directed The Hunt in 2012, starring Mads Mikkelsen. The feature film won the Award for Best Actor and the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
