Yasmine Benkiran
Yasmine Benkiran is a French-Moroccan film director and screenwriter. She grew up in Rabat on Morocco’s Atlantic coast and moved to Paris at the age of 18 to study philosophy and communications. After gaining professional experience in Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Paris and London, she joined LA FĂMIS (scriptwriting workshop) and qualified as a scriptwriter. Yasmine writes for both television and film. She is also the author of two books on Morocco and a podcast series on Alice Guy, history’s first female director. In 2018, Yasmine directed the short film L’HEURE D’HIVER (Tangier IFF, Off-courts Trouville). Her first feature film, REINES, a feminist truck chase, makes its world premiere in September 2022 at the Venice Film Festival, closing the International Critics’ Week, and continues its festival tour in 2023, before its theatrical release in France in spring 2024.
