Zahra Amir Ebrahimi

“Zar” was born in Teheran in 1981. At the age of 16, she took part in her first short films as an assistant director. After becoming an actress, she studied drama at the Islamic Azad University in Teheran, alongside a Fine Arts course at the Charsu Institute. Her career as a director began with her short film “Khat”. As an actress, she appeared in the films of many Iranian directors, including Mohammad Nourizad, Mojtaba Raie, Abolfazl Jalili, Abbas Kiarostami and at Tehran’s City Theater. Public recognition came with her participation in the TV series Komakam Kon. His role in the cult series Nargess brought him great notoriety. It was against this backdrop that she became involved in a sex tape scandal, despite her denials. Prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi is in charge of the accusation. She fled to France in 2008, where she worked as an actress and director, notably for the BBC’s Persian-language program, and obtained French nationality by naturalization decree. In 2017, she starred in director Ali Soozandeh’s Tehran Taboo, nominated for a Critics’ Week award at the Cannes Film Festival.
