Aan de vooravond van zijn 25e verjaardag zet Sokuro, zoon van Burkinabische immigranten die in Italië wonen, de familietraditie voort door te trouwen met Nassira, een jong meisje uit zijn geboortedorp. Voor hem is dat de eerste stap naar een definitief en toekomstige terugkeer naar Burkina Faso, maar voor maar voor zijn nieuwe vrouw is het huwelijk een toegang tot het Europese Eldorado.

Mathieu Volpe (Rome, 1990) was raised by his Belgian mother and his Italian father in Bari, in the South of Italy. In 2009 he moved to Belgium in order to study filmmaking. His shorts have been presented in several international festivals such as Locarno, Torino, Dok Leipzig and Fipadoc. “An Italian Youth” is his first feature-length documentary.
