Emilia Perez

French director, born in Paris in 1952.

After studying literature (he planned to become a teacher), Jacques Audiard turned to cinema. He started out as an assistant on Roman Polanski’s Le Locataire and Patrice Chéreau’s Judith Therpauve. He then worked as an editor before becoming a well-known screenwriter. His transition to directing in 1994 with Regarde les hommes tomber, starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Mathieu Kassovitz, earned him the César for Best First Film in 1994. His second film, Un héros très discret, is an adaptation of the novel by Jean-François Deniau. This was followed by Sur mes lèvres, De battre mon cœur s’est arrêté, Un prophète and De rouille et d’os, each of which won numerous international awards and was a great success with the public. The same is true of his latest films: Dheepan won the Palme d’Or in 2015, the western Les Frères Sisters won him the César for Best Director in 2019, while in 2021 Les Olympiades is in competition at Cannes.
