La Maternal

Pilar Palomero graduated from the University of Zaragoza with a degree in Hispanic Philology in 2003. She works as a scriptwriter and teaches film and audiovisual studies, and has written and directed various short films that have been screened at different international festivals. In 2013 she took part in the Film Factory doctoral programme, created by Hungarian film director Béla Tarr in Sarajevo. As well as continuing to make short films and documentaries, she works as a television scriptwriter. In 2020, she co-wrote the screenplay for Diego Moncada’s Chaco, which premiered at the Rotterdam Festival. In that same year, she released her first feature length film, Las niñas, at the Berlin Film Festival. This won her various awards, including the Golden Biznaga at the Malaga Festival and the Goya Award for the Best Film in 2021. Her second feature film, La Maternal, was selected in Official Competition at the San Sebastian Film Festival 2022 and won the Silver Shell Award for Best Leading Performance.
