Friday, September 4, at UGC De Brouckère and Cinema Palace: Belgian premiere, with Emmanuel Marre & Swann Arlaud in attendance

The 9th edition of BRIFF will open with Notre Salut, the new feature film by Emmanuel Marre.

Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, the film will be presented as a Belgian premiere. An exceptional opportunity to discover, exclusively, one of the most eagerly awaited films of the new cinema season.

September 1940. The Pétain regime is taking shape. Henri Marre, 49, arrives in Vichy penniless and without any connections, far from his wife and children. He sees the new administration as an opportunity to finally find the place he deserves. In his suitcase is his self-published political treatise, Notre Salut, in which he defends his patriotic convictions and his methods as an engineer. His credo: “greater efficiency” to help France recover from its defeat. But perhaps Henri is above all trying to escape his own downfall…

* The film Notre Salut will also be part of the International Competition and will be screened again on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 6:15 PM at Cinema Galeries.

Emmanuel Marre

emmanuel marre

Emmanuel Marre (1980) studied for a Master’s degree in Literature in Paris before joining the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Belgium in 2004, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Film Directing in 2008. He lives and works in Brussels, dividing his time between documentary and fiction.

Emmanuel Marre seeks a freer way of working, based on writing during the shoot and closely connected to the documentary approach. His creative process is rooted in direct engagement with his material: the actors, the environment, and life in all its splendid chaos.
